4th COMMANDMENT {sabbath}

And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. Exodus 19:16,18 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:8-11 Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee.Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day. Deuteronomy 5:12-15 The 7th day Sabbath has always existed since the begining as a Holy, blessed and sanctified day. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Genesis 2:1-3 In Deuteronomy you have the repitition of the Law. A review of the past 40 years of events explained by Moses. Notice that in the Commandment we are to keep the 7th day Sabbath holy because it acknowledges Him as our Creator. That was the Law written by the finger of God. In Deuteronomy Moses explains also it is because God delivered them from the bondage of Egypt. Just as He delivers us from the bondage of sin. He is both CREATOR and SAVIOUR in His Law. And it hath been from month to month, And from sabbath to sabbath, Come do all flesh to bow themselves before Me, Said Jehovah. Isaiah 66:23 The Sabbath is a sign between God and His people. And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. Ezekial 20:20 Why do most Christians keep 9 Commandments but not all ten? Why do they institute Sunday (first day-Lords day) in its place? Yes He rose on sunday, but He (our example) rested even in death on the Sabbath. Thats why He was crucified before Sabbath on Friday afternoon (Days were kept by sunset to sunset) and rested on Sabbath in the grave. Then rose on the first day to continue His work. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:18,19 Sunday was slowly instituted for a variety of reasons in the first few centuries on Christianity. But not by God. He nailed to the cross the ceremonial laws of the Jews that pointed to His sacrifice. After the crucifiction, there was no need for them, but that is not the same as His Commandments, the Law of God. But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster. Galatians 3:23,25 We are now free from the ceremonial laws of the Hebrews that were the schoolmaster to educate them of the comming Messiah and His purpose, nailed to the cross. But His Law, His Commandments still stand. These He wrote with His own finger, the others He gave verbally to Moses. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Romans 7:7,12 Paul still recognized the Commandments. For sin is trangression of the Law, and how can we sin and need a saviour still, if its not still binding? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin. Romans 7:25 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23 The Pharisees had become legalistic in keeping the Law and ceremonies. Christ healed on the Sabbath day. But that was to do good out of love, the spirit of the Law. But He wasn't to be found in worldly business on Sabbath, such as working in His carpenter shop. And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? Luke 14:3,5 The Jewish leaders had lost sight of the love of the Law. But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; Malachai 2:8 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22:35-40 Here Christ gave a summary of the Law. His first 4 commandments deal with Love for God, the next 6 with love towards your fellow man. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10 I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me. Psalm 119:19 If ye love me, keep my commandments. John14:15
