Mary at HIS Feet-Again

1) At the house of Simon whom He had healed Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, Matthew 26:6
2) The Anointing Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. John 12:3 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Luke 7:38
3) The indignation towards her Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him, Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein. John 12:4-6
4) The rebuke When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. Matthew 26:10 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: John 12:7 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. Mark 14:8 For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Matthew 26:12 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always. Mark 14:7
5) The thoughts of Simon Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. Luke 7:39
6) The rebuke in the form of a Parable And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. Luke 7:40-43
7) Mary shall be remembered for this Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her. Matthew 26:13
8) Judas leaves to betray Him Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him. Matthew 26:14-16
9) Plot of the priests to kill Lazarus Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. John 12:9-11
10) The contrast between Simon & Mary And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. Luke 7:44-47
11) Words to Mary And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace. Luke 7:50
In Hebrew Mashach means Messiah. In Greek Christos (Christ) means anointed one. Mary is the one who anointed the Messiah as Christ. As nations will rise and fall throughout the pages of history Mary will be remembered as the one who annointed the Messiah as the Christ. She was a woman of poverty and spent her money for the anointing. Paul reminds us Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
